APRIL

AHAGN April 19th meeting

The meeting was held and the Sandy Cooke farm, starting off with a good meal , then a short farm tour.  Meeting was called to order at 8:10  There was a good turn out.  Pete & Kathy S, Peg T, Sandy C, Marv & Marty J,  Todd, Tate,  Jennifer Burke, Amy S, Krissy C, Kaylee C, Jane E, Sarah C, Sarah G, Candy B, Jerry L.  Hope I didn’t miss anyone, if I did sorry.

Sandy made a motion and Pete seconded it to waive the reading of article 1.

Minutes of the March meeting were read and approved except it should have read Johnson’s Saddle Shop instead of tack shop.  Jane motioned and Tate seconded to approve the minutes with the correction.  Approved

Treasurer report was read.  Balance is $2096.53 including the futurity acct.  Sarah Chambers made motion to approve report and Amy Suliin seconded.  Approved

OSIP (high point awards) are now being handled by Amy Suliin.  If you need to contact her at her email it is [email protected]

Sandy Cooke as Region 10 delegate informed the club that Region 10 is looking for volunteers for the Region 10 show.  If you are able to help out please contact [email protected].   He has a listing of available dates needed to work and I can     e mail that to anyone that wants to look at it.  We have also been getting information about lifetime qualifications for National Champions.

There was a good turn out at the Northland Horse Fair.  None of the people that worked the fair were at the meeting, so we did not find out who won the breyer horse, but, we would like to thank the people who volunteered.

Still no date on Chisholm expo.   The Mn Trail ride assoc is having its spring ride at Stoney Brook on May 18, 19,20th.

Possible date for a Bar V bar ride is Sept 8th weekend.

Discussion on horse clinic.  Not sure we can get the two clinicians on same date , so possibilities are having Gary Holliday  (2011 Canadian National Champion in sport horse show hack and he had 2 other Top Tens as well, in hunter pleasure 40 and over and sport horse under saddle.)on June 3rd Sunday at Peg Twinings, and having Hoyt Rose (reining trainer) at the dirt floor arena on July 21st.  But dates have be checked out more.  Still checking on cost of dirt floor arena and availability.

Jane E made a motion to have clinic on July 21 then rescinded after more discussion.

We then had a very informative talk on Endurance /competitive riding by Candy Barbo.  She had a lot of books, pictures, trophies to show us and  she would like to recruit more people into riding  competitively especially since the Arabian breed does so well at this sport.  Thank you so much for coming to the meeting and showing us your passion of the sport.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:05.  Respectfully submitted Sandy Cooke

Jan 22 2012 Kick Off The New Year

Hello Everyone!

We Met on Sunday January 22 for our Annual Kick Of the New Year Party. We went to Stadium Lanes North (Thanx Peter Sylvester for setting that up for us) ALSO a HUGE thanx to Diamond Royal Tack for donating some gifts for door prizes.
It was so wonderful seeing everyone and we hope this is a continuing trend. The more people we have the more stuff we can do.

As a recap of 2011 we hosted some trail rides a weekend at the BAR V BAR which we hope to do again in 2012. We sponsored some horse show classes as well as bonus awards for AHAGN members who showed their Horses at the South Saint Louis County Fair. We participated in local horse expos as well as at the state level. TKO Arabians and Club president Todd Olson will be at the Horse Expo again this year. We started an Open Show incentive program (OSIP) for members to show their Horses at local shows. OSIP is a benefit for Club members and it is currently free. We sent a delegate to the National AHA convention. Hopefully 2012 will be even bigger and better than 2011…. IT IS GREAT TO SEE YOU ALL AND KEEP COMING BACK!

AHAGN MEETING DEC 15, 2011

AHAGN MEETING DEC 15, 2011

Meeting was called to order 7:15.  Members present were Todd & Tate Olsen, Pete Sylvester, Jerry Lislegard, and Sandy Cooke.

Pete made the motion and Jerry 2nd to waive the reading of the by laws.

Jerry made a motion to waive the reading of secretary report because she was not in attendance.  Pete 2nd.   Treasurer report was read and approved.

Sandy read her coverage of the convention that she attended in Vancouver BC for AHA.

Pete made a motion to pay $921.34 more to cover more expenses for the convention trip as we asked her to represent our club.  Jerry L. 2nd .  It was a very expensive trip and we probably will not send someone again for a long time.  We did receive $200 from Reg 10 for Sandy attending the caucus meeting.  Motion was approved.  (Of course it was brought up that I need to have another clinic to make the money back, which if my health stays okay I had agreed to do before they sent me)

There will be a clinic at Cedar Ridge on Jan 29th.  If anyone wants more information, contact Sandy Cooke as she has the invitation to pass on.

Sandy checked on a slideshow presentation with Sheila Varian not realizing that she comes with it.  (I thought maybe it was just a video that we could show at our meeting).   It would cost $500 plus expenses.  It would be a very nice clinic but would be hard to make any profit because of expenses.  But I am still thinking of clinic ideas.

High point awards will be given out at our January 22 kick off party, which was decided to be at Country Lanes bowling alley in Duluth behind K mart.  Starts at 2:00 pm and we will have pizza after.  Tate made the motion and Jerry 2nd.

Jerry made a motion to hold off on elections, Sandy 2nd. Not enough members have been showing up to hold elections.  At October’s meeting both Todd Olsen and Sandy Cooke were absent due to being in the hospital.  So there wasn’t a quorum then.  There were only 4 people at the Nov meeting and 5 at out last meeting.  We need to have a quorum to have elections.  Please attend the January kickoff meeting and maybe we can get enough people to hold a quick election.  We are keeping same officers until the elections can be held.  Todd Olsen asked if anyone would consider becoming President due to his health problems.  Please consider helping out at this time.

Jerry said he is going to find out more about a possible horse expo in Embarrass next spring.  If there is one, he would like to have us put a booth at it, as there are a quite a few Arabian owners in that area.

Pet made a motion to adjourn at 9:05, Jerry 2nd.

REMEMBER JANUARY 22ND KICK OFF PARTY AND HIGH POINT AWARDS AT COUNTRY LANES.

Respectfully submitted

Sandy Cooke

Members present were Todd Olsen, Pete Sylvester, Jerry & Barb Zimny, Randy & Jane Ecklund, Jerry Lislegard, Sandy Cooke, Krissy Carl, Kaylee Cooke, Sue Godden.  Guests Candy Barbo and Kathy Shopa from the Duluth area horse trail alliance.

Waived reading of by laws.  Randy made a motion to approve and Pete seconded it.  Motion carries. Minutes from the August 18th meeting were read.  Jerry L made motion to approve minutes and Barb Z. seconded. Motion carried.

Discussion about the Bar V Bar ride starting 9/16.

High Point status is required by Nov 1st.

Sue Godden volunteered to copy more of the club growth handouts, and we are going to discuss it again next meeting.

Wanted to know if anyone is interested in getting more club apparel.  There was some interest again.

Nominations were opened, none made until next meeting.

Offices that are open are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Director position (Jerry L is the open one).

Kathy Shopa and Candy Barbo came from the Duluth area horse trail alliance and wanted our club to participate at the meetings that are coming up about the horse trails in the Duluth area.  The Jay Cooke park area  is looking like a possibility.  The DWP is willing to allow the City to use their abandoned railway as part of the trail.  It will probably take 2 to 3 years or longer to get the trail completed depending upon volunteer help.  There is a meeting on Sept 19th at West Duluth Park & Rec:Sept 21st at Hartley Field in Woodland, and Oct 12th at Munger Tavern.  Please attend and show support for the trail system.

Jane E. made a motion that our club supports the trail alliance and Barb Z seconded it Motion carried.  There will be a support letter to follow this motion.
