AHAGN Futurity Committee Proposal

July 16, 2009

The AHAGN Futurity committee has been re-established and is trying to ignite more excitement in the breeding of Arabian horses within our immediate area and within Region 10.  After meeting to consider what it would take to rebuild what was a fun and long-standing futurity, we propose the following measures be enacted to give this futurity a re-birth:

1.             All previously nominated AHAGN futurity horses will be eligible for any and all maturity classes offered.   A $5.00 fee will be due for the registration of each class on the day of the show.

2.             The AHAGN will sponsor this yearly event in the amount of $300.00 in order to cover the cost of a judge, with the remainder to go toward covering the costs of prizes and cash paybacks.  This helps the futurity attract more nominations in the early years when numbers may be down, and will provide for a full day judge in the event that the futurity grows to a level that a stand-a-lone futurity show is deemed necessary.

3.             This will be a pure-bred futurity.  A part-bred futurity will be looked at in the future if enough interest is expressed in expanding our futurity and we have had reasonable success in building the pure-bred classes.

4.             Colts and fillies will show together until a 10-entry class enables us to split them.

5.             The futurity will accept sponsorships in order to increase the payback for designated classes and will advertise for the sponsor at the show in an appropriate manner.

6.             Classes will be held for weanlings, yearlings, 2-year olds, and 4+ maturity classes.

7.             Prizes will be awarded for Champion, runner-up, and 2nd runner-up in each class.  Both prizes and cash paybacks will be available for the weanling class.

8.             The futurity will be funded by entry fees from nominations and will be dispersed at a ratio of 45% to the weanling class, with an approximate remaining 50-55% to be dispersed equally between the other 3 classes each year.  There may be a nominal amount carried over to cover the cost of necessary supplies and certificates that will be issued to breeders for each nominated horse.

9.             Proposed prizes will be AHAGN Futurity Champion halters in lieu of trophies, as well as cash paybacks.

10.          Nomination forms are currently being revised with the new fee schedule and deadlines for this first year and should be available at the August 09 meeting.

11.          Cash left over from empty classes will be rolled over into the next years futurity fund.

12.          Certificates for nominated horses are also currently being designed and created for the 2010 AHAGN Futurity.

13.          A fee schedule should be available at the August AHAGN meeting.  There will be separate fees for full members, Associate members, Region 10 members, and non-members.  This will be decided at the next futurity meeting to be tentatively held in early August.

14.          We invite your input, ideas, and questions pertaining to the new futurity being set up.  If we have missed or overlooked something that you have noticed, please contact:  Jaime Runstrom - Futurity Chair, or Todd Olson -Vice Chair.

15.          There is still room for members wanting to volunteer for the futurity committee.  Come on board; it will be an exciting year and future with the AHAGN Futurity.
