The Black Birch Ranch and Tack Shop is neatly situated in the heart of the Great North 3.8 miles east of the town of Embarrass.  We are surrounded by northern forest and we experience more snow than anywhere else in the North so we call our ponies the Snowmane ponies.  They are the beginning of a new tough breed of pony that will be capable of handling extreme temperatures, harsh conditions, while remaining calm and tractable; easily trained ponies that will be an asset and pleasure for any youngster.

There are a variety of breeds at our ranch right now as we focus on the future pony breed we are developing.  The breeds include: Arabian, AQHA, mustang, Welsh Section A Mountain ponies, Shetland ponies, and grade ponies.

My husband Luke Lukas is a college professor at Vermilion Community College and uses our horses and ponies to teach a class in Wilderness Horse Packing.  Our animals truly work for everyone.  My name is Nora and I and Luke manage our ranch together and I manage the tack shop.  We will be adding an arena soon so that we can begin a new venture for Luke called Cowboy Mounted Shooting Sports.
